I am an unabashed conservative libertarian. I have voted for Linda Smith, Jaime Herrera Butler and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (twice).
Although I have not always agreed with her votes, she has been, and is, a good representative for her constituents. She was honest and moved with integrity. Both my wife and I were on the fence this time; not because we didn’t believe in MGP but because of the balance of power in Congress.
Because of her advertisements, we are no longer on the fence. They are baseless and, quite frankly, disgusting. I once bumped into then-candidate Derek Sanders (the Thurston County one) at a wake. I told him, “I don’t know you from Adam but you have run one of the cleanest campaigns in my political history.”
I don’t know if he is a quiet man or not, but for a moment he was speechless (something unusual in a politician). He eventually said “thanks” and we moved on.
I just wish MGP, and all politicians, would live up to Mr. Sanders’ standards.
