I am writing in reply to the Dec. 23, 2025, letter from Richard Perry who lists his address as “Washington Corrections Center.” Is Mr. Perry a corrections officer or is he an inmate?
I am proudly anti-fascist, as were my father and mother and grandparents. As was George Washington. As was Abraham Lincoln. As was Franklin Roosevelt, who guided the United States through our anti-fascist war known as World War II.
Perry must be watching some peculiar brand of news channel. I watched coverage of the “No Kings” demonstrations and did not see cadres of uniformed tactical fighters carrying antifa banners. I saw ordinary Americans organized in peaceful protest against the actions of their government which is their constitutional right. No, make that their constitutional responsibility.
Perry is right about one thing. Anti-fascism in America is real. It always has been. In fact, the founding documents of the United States are vehemently anti-fascist. The first 10 amendments to the Constitution, commonly referred to as “The Bill of Rights,” is history’s greatest anti-fascist document.
Perry offers a lot of very extremist right-wing tropes including the transgender one. He says teach math. OK, let’s do the math. There are roughly 72 million children in the United States. Approximately 42,000 identify as transgender. That calculates to 0.0005833%. So, roughly six ten-thousandths of one percent of America’s children identify as transgender. That is the hill right wing extremists say the American republic is going to die on? So does Perry scream to go get the raingear when the weather forecast is for six ten-thousandths of one percent chance of rain? That is common sense?
Yes, teach math, science (Perry conspicuously omits science), literature, art, music, civics and history. All of history. America has overwhelmingly been a positive for mankind but there has been some powerful evil along the way that should be learned as well. Not to shame anyone, but to learn not to repeat it.
Perry espouses what he believes is conservatism, but the days of patriotic conservatives such as Ronald Reagan and John McCain are in the past. Now we have a vile “conservative” movement typified by the rise of vile white nationalist Nick Fuentes who espouses his admiration for Adolf Hitler and the things Hitler hated, like American and European democracy. Hitler was the leader of the most odious regime in the history of the world, fascist or otherwise.
Fuentes was a welcomed dinner guest at Trump’s gilded Mar-a-Lago palace. Trump seeks to align the United States with murderous, repugnant regimes such as Putin’s Russia and Kim’s North Korea and scorn our great European and Asian democratic allies.
So, are Fuentes and Trump saying fighting alongside Great Britain and our other allies against Hitler and Mussolini and Tojo in World War II was a mistake? Does Mr. Perry wish to rewrite the anti-fascist World War II era of American history?
Conservatism has been hijacked by RINOs like Nick Fuentes and Donald Trump and Richard Perry. Like the pro-Nazi Bund movement in America in the 1930s and 40s, it is not characterized by common sense and it certainly no longer represents the patriotic, anti-fascist views of Ronald Reagan and John McCain.
