Letter to the editor: Claims against City of Winlock are not true

Posted

Residents of Winlock:

I am writing to address the profoundly concerning and baseless accusations made in a recent letter to the editor, published in The Chronicle. The City of Winlock wishes to clarify that it does not maintain an official Facebook page, nor is it associated with any Facebook page. The assumption that this individual was engaging with city officials online is entirely incorrect and has led to unfounded allegations that are not only lacking in discernment, but also deeply troubling for the city and its dedicated staff.

These false accusations are not a trivial matter. They have the potential to place our staff and elected officials in harm’s way, particularly in a climate where misinformation can escalate tensions. We are acutely aware of recent incidents in other states where elected officials have been targeted and even assassinated in their homes over positions they took on issues. Such emotionally driven slander risks creating an environment of hostility and danger for the hardworking individuals who serve our community.

The City of Winlock remains committed to transparency and open communication. As mayor, I will always be available to any citizen who wishes to meet or speak with me to discuss any concerns or verify information. I urge our citizens to heed the wisdom of being quick to listen, slow to speak and even slower to anger. Before spreading unverified assumptions or disinformation, I encourage everyone to confirm the facts to avoid endangering innocent people.

We value the trust and safety of everyone in our community and ask for your cooperation in fostering a respectful and truthful conversation. For any questions or concerns, please contact my office directly.
