Letter to the editor: By voting for Braun, will we just be conceding our vote to Trump?

Posted

I’ve been reading the literature and watching the commercials of the two candidates for our congressional district. Their past history in office shows a commitment to do what they feel is the best for southwest Washington.

However, what concerns me now is the path forward for John Braun. First of all, the endorsement of a convicted felon (34 counts) and accused rapist, and Trump’s connections with a porn star and other unsavory dealings, have given me pause to wonder what the future holds for Braun. He apparently is not touting that backing.

Braun supports stronger funding for vulnerable hospitals, which is the opposite of what the current administration has eliminated. Braun wants to hold criminals accountable for defrauding taxpayers and stealing public money. The current administration has enjoyed increased personal wealth.

Braun wants to make sure health insurers are disclosing profits. The current administration has cut health care funding and Medicaid coverage to millions. Braun wants to lower costs, but Elon Musk tried that, and where are we now?

Musk just keeps getting richer. Have Trump’s tariffs lowered any costs? Trump’s war has increased prices of groceries, gasoline and diesel. Inflation is up. Will Braun oppose Trump’s war?

My question about Braun is what will he do when faced with a diametrically opposite view of President Trump? Will Braun hold fast to his campaign promises, or will he give in to the pressure of the millions of dollars given to him by Trump and his acolytes? And then, if Braun doesn’t give in, will he just be another one on the revenge list of Trump’s?

How can Braun stay out of “the swamp?” By voting for Braun, will we just be conceding our vote to Trump, and where will we be here then in Southwest Washington? What looms ahead for both Braun and us?
