Letter to the editor: Braun in lockstep with Trump

Posted

It is time to move on from the wise and powerful elephant as the long time symbol of the Republican Party. To symbolize the GOP’s complete subservience to Donald Trump and his ignorant policies and ugly divisiveness, they should adopt the symbol of a turtle flipped over and stuck on its back.

Since receiving his endorsement from King Donald, John Braun has done or said nothing to demonstrate he would be anything other than a rubber stamp for the rotten, thoroughly corrupt Trump Administration. The Trump family and their cronies are so brazenly and obscenely corrupt it would make Al Capone blush with envy.

I have seen no attempt by Braun to distance himself from Trump’s ruinous tariff policies that have done nothing to return manufacturing to the United States. Negative 75,000 manufacturing jobs since Jan. 25, 2025 and fueling inflation.

Does Braun favor a trade war with Canada? Even with Walmart and Home Depot and Harbor Freight, Washington state’s biggest trading partner is not China — it is Canada. The Wall Street Journal called Trump’s trade war with Canada “the dumbest trade war in history.”

I have seen no attempt by Braun to question Trump’s ruinous war of choice with Iran, a war that has driven up fuel costs with knockon effects to grocery prices and any other items that must be transported by truck, spurring inflation.

I have seen no attempt by Braun to question Trump’s tilt toward Vladimir Putin on every possible important position. Most importantly the war in Ukraine.

I have heard nothing  from Braun, a former Navy Captain, about Trump eviscerating our alliances and our reputation as a reliable ally. We are no longer a reliable friend of democracy and freedom or a foe of murderous thugs and dictators. Surely Braun would have some opinions about foreign policy?

What does the former Navy captain think of the conditions on the USS Abraham Lincoln? How would he vote on matters related to keeping our word to our allies in NATO and elsewhere? Or does he agree that in the age of Trump America’s word means nothing?

Does Braun believe the threat from “superintelligent” AI is, as King Donald says, is a hoax? If elected, will he vote for H.R. 9917, the U.S. House AI Kill Switch Act? What about data centers in the Third District?

Would a U.S. Rep. John Braun vote to give huge tax breaks to billionaires and pay for them by cutting Medicaid and Medicare? Would he favor eliminating the cap on taxable earnings for Social Security or raising the cap to a realistic modern level? Doing so would make Social Security solvent for many, many decades to come.

Of course, a representative to Congress must pay the most attention to matters that affect his or her district. All of these issues do affect everyone in our Third District.

So far, state Sen. John Braun seems to be saying he will lower your property taxes.
