The voters have given the incumbent approximately 10 years to "find her spot" on the Port of Centralia Commission. After attending most port meetings in the last five years, I realize it's up to the port commissioners to set the path forward for the port.
I'm not critical of the amount of new jobs being created at the port.
I have a hard time witnessing the lack of respect and communicative skills exhibited by the current executive director.
Whether it's dealing with flood-prone neighbors or dealing with property owners for potential purchase or the attendees at port meetings, his behavior is very unprofessional.
Currently, the incumbent seems content with allowing this type of disrespectful behavior.
Currently, it is very difficult getting any answers to questions at port meetings, let alone to even be allowed to have followup questions. Meetings typically last about eight to 15 minutes, so there should be no problems answering a few questions from the public. Financial reports are very limited in detail.
I believe Ally Pickard will speak up for better communication and attitudes and addressing the constituents' concerns.
I invite you to a port meeting to see for yourself. They are held on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 3 p.m. at the Port of Centralia office on Galvin Road.
Before he left the Port of Chehalis a few years ago, I sat down with Randy Mueller, the executive director. Mr. Mueller emphasized to me that the port is there to serve the public and provide good-paying jobs. But his main point was to always communicate and listen to all his neighbors of the port.
Ally Pickard has stated she will encourage a "citizens advisory committee" and moving meetings to a better time for the public to attend. Ally will advocate for financial transparency and more open government.
The commissioners could and should insist the port work with all their neighbors and public entities.
Ally Pickard is the right leader to keep the port healthy and to become that willing respectful partner we have desired for so long!
Vote Ally Pickard.
