Letter to the editor: A warning about a dangerous dog after attack in Centralia

Posted

Please be aware that there is a very aggressive black pitbull that is able to slip under the fence into Mountain View Cemetery in Centralia.

On Jan. 5, I was walking my two dogs through the cemetery on a leash when a black pitty flew under the fence from his front yard. I think it was a male, but I’m not certain.

He grabbed my mini Australian shepherd by the throat, and shook him like a doll, eventually getting him to the ground. My dog laid limp. I was sure he died. The pitbull released my boy after he went limp, looked at me and went back under the fence.

I couldn’t believe my dog got up. I was positive he was dead. I called 911 immediately after getting away from this fence. Police escorted us home so I could get my boy to the emergency vet.

He survived. After what I witnessed, I cannot believe he survived.

An older woman was with him and stood on the other side of the fence the entire time. There was nothing she could have done at that moment. This dog was out for blood.

This dog wore no collar and had no restraints attached. This was 100% preventable. We were simply walking by.

I am a dedicated dog lover. This incident breaks my heart for both animals but needs to be dealt with so no other dog or human has to go through such a traumatic event. I know pitbulls are big loves. Unfortunately, this one dog is aggressive, and this cannot happen again. The owner must be more responsible. It’s obvious this dog has slipped under the fence many, many times based on the nature of the fence.

So please, please, please stay away from the Jalyn Street side of the cemetery until we know appropriate measures have been taken.
