The Republican Party has dragged out the tired ploy that Democratic candidates are communists.
That worked for a while and ruined many lives and careers while Joseph McCarthy used fear of communism to enhance his political career.
One of the first things done in converting a democratic or capitalist government into a communist state is nationalization of industry and property. We witnessed that happening in many eastern European countries as they became Russian satellite states.
In 2025, the Trump administration began acquiring equity and partial ownership of at least 30 independent companies. This list includes U.S. Steel/Nippon Steel, MP Materials, Intel, Trilogy Minerals, Lithium Americas, Westinghouse, Vulcan Elements, ReElement Technologies, Korea Zinc/Crucible Metals, xLight Semi conductors, L3Harris/Missile Solutions, Atlantic Alumina Company, U.S.A. Rare Earth Minerals, Global Foundries, IBM/Anderson, Atom Computing, Diraq quantum computing, D-wave Quantum, Infleqtion quantum computing, PsiQuantum, Quantinum, Rigetti Computing, Sandbox AQ semiconductors, I-Pulse semiconductors, Kepler Computing, Multibeam Corporation, Extropic, Thintronics, Obsidia Semiconductors, Aeluma Semiconductors and Strategic Bauxite USA.
If this behavior isn’t communism, it smells a lot like it. Since this behavior has become sanctioned by Congress, it would make sense to me that the Trump government should stop the charade and fully nationalize the oil industry. If our oil producers were restricted from selling oil on the international markets until prices for fuel in America fell to pre-Trump levels, it would resolve much of the “affordability issue.”
I would very much appreciate hearing opinions from other Lewis County residents regarding my thoughts on the subject.
