During the current upheaval and political turmoil, I strive to remain true to myself and the values by which I have tried to live my life.
One of those tried and true measures of any man or woman of which I judge, is this: Does this person keep their word? Specifically, does their action agree with their spoken or written word?
The first promise the newly elected president of the United States makes to our country is thisboath of office: Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution:
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
There may be many interpretations of this oath by others, but for me the only interpretation and measure of a man or woman can be summed up as this: A man or woman is only as good as their word.
