Letter to the Editor: 3rd Congressional District Doesn’t Have Time to Waste — Vote Hennrich

I am a resident of Washington state’s 3rd Congressional District. This is a critical voting year for our district and our state.

Brent Hennrich is the Democrat running to replace Jaime Hererra Beutler this year. I called Brent almost a year ago and asked him questions about his candidacy and what he saw for our district. Brent actually lives in our district, so we have mutual needs for Southwest Washington.

First and foremost is the climate crisis. That’s my No. 1 concern. Almost two years ago, we spent 10 days inside our homes due to wildfire smoke. We have been experiencing droughts and rising temperatures. While this shouldn’t be considered a political issue, every Republican in office either ignores or dismisses it. Including Jaime Hererra Beutler.

Joe Kent is running as a Republican against Herrera Beutler. Kent has vowed to do literally nothing. I don’t mean just about the climate crisis, I mean about anything. However, Herrera Beutler has done nothing for us, either. I mean nothing.

The other day I received a two-page brochure-type advertisement from a Democrat, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez. In this ad was a poll. In this poll the “Democrat” was in the lead, followed by Kent and then Ms. Herrera Beutler. Herrera Beutler is certainly in a position to be replaced in our district and since she’s done very little to improve our district, I’m not surprised. However, Gluesenkamp Perez failed to mention the Democrat in the polling is Brent Hennrich. She claims she’s the only major Democrat in this race. Well, that is news to me. Who, I wonder, deemed Ms. Gluesenkamp Perez, the only major Democrat in this race?

I have tried to call Gluesenkamp Perez, but she hasn’t returned my call. She doesn’t have open direct messages on Twitter and I don’t see that she’s accepting any messages of any kind from anywhere. And since she’s just entered this race, in February, I’m not sure how we reach out to this candidate. Her policies are generic and without specifics as to what she will do to improve our district. I already have a congressperson that hasn’t returned my calls for the past six years.

Now I’m ready for a person who will take my calls. He may not always agree with me, but he listens to what I have to say. He isn’t a professional politician. His speech isn’t always perfect. Hennrich is the candidate we should get behind and push over the primary finish line. Washington’s 3rd Congressional District doesn’t have time to waste.
