Larson’s first half goal gives Trailblazers win over Gators

A first-half goal from Cierra Larson was enough for the Centralia College Trailblazers to top the Green River Gators Wednesday at Bob Peters Field.

Both teams had their chances throughout the game, as the Trailblazers (2-2, 0-1 NWAC) tallied 15 shots and the Gators (3-3) recorded 10, but Larson’s shot in the 17th minute was the only one to find the back of the net.

Even as pressure ramped up in the second half with both teams taking three corners each, Green River’s Shelby Dirks and Centralia’s Kalei Garcia and Melina Grijalva held strong in net.

Dirks finished the game with six saves, while Grijalva tallied four and Garcia had two.

The win was a nice bounce back for the Trailblazers, who had lost their previous two games to Peninsula and Pierce by a combined score of 11-0.

They’ll get the chance to build off the win on Saturday, when they’ll host Lower Columbia in a conference clash at Bob Peters Field at 2 p.m.
