John and Mary “Peg” Peterson celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Feb. 8 at their home near Chehalis.

While students at Washington State University, the Petersons were married in Pullman at St. James Episcopal Church. Originally born and raised in Eastern Washington, the Petersons came to Chehalis in 1975, establishing Rosebrook Farm, where they raised Suffolk and Southdown sheep until 2019. John and Peg have long been active supporting 4-H and FFA livestock activities, including their participation as members of the Spring Youth Fair start-up committee in 1985.

Following graduation from WSU in 1965, John worked in management and finance for International Mineral and Chemical Corp, The Farm Credit Banks, C-21 Lund and TJ Guyer. Peg was an educator, working as a substitute teacher in Lewis County schools until he finally retired from the Onalaska School District.

As Dayton High School sweethearts, Peg and John bonded on their first date out of town, traveling to WSU to pick up a polled Hereford heifer, John’s FFA project.

Peg and John enjoy visiting their children and neighbors, Jeff (Jill) Peterson and Kristin (Mitch) Tennison, Centralia. Gardening is now the family topic, no longer sheep.

The Petersons have four grandchildren, Jace Peterson, Josie (Zander) Isenhower, Kaya (James) Miceli and Kolton Kirkendoll.
