Local law enforcement have arrested two people and seized 8 pounds of suspected methamphetamine and 10,000 pills suspected to contain fentanyl following a traffic stop on northbound Interstate 5 in Centralia on Tuesday.
Members of the Joint Narcotic Enforcement Team (JNET) and a Centralia Police Department K9 Team, Officer Ruben Ramirez and K9 Pax, found the drugs while executing a search warrant for the vehicle, which the officers had stopped near milepost 81 on northbound I-5, according to a news release from JNET.
“Upon contacting the driver of the vehicle, actions of the occupants raised the suspicion of the JNET detective,” stated the news release.
K9 Pax was deployed around the vehicle and alerted for the presence of drugs, prompting officers to obtain a search warrant for the vehicle, according to the news release.
“As a result of this stop, JNET prevented approximately 8 pounds of suspected Methamphetamine and 10,000 pills suspected to contain Fentanyl, from hitting the streets of our communities,” stated the news release.
As a result of the search, David A. Berryhill, 47, of Bremerton, and Jamie J. Kelly, 50, of Seabeck, were arrested and were booked into the Lewis County Jail just after 1 p.m. on Tuesday on drug trafficking-related charges. Both were scheduled to have preliminary hearings in Lewis County Superior Court on Wednesday afternoon.
