In-N-Out Burger is about to take a massive step toward Portland.
Portlanders hankering for a shake and animal-style fries will no longer have to cross state lines to efficiently satisfy their craving. Starting this week, all it’ll take is a (relatively) quick trip to the suburbs.
The cult classic California-based burger chain will open its long-awaited Hillsboro location Thursday at 2498 N.E. Town Center Drive. The Tanasbourne Town Center restaurant will be just 10 miles — or, on a good traffic day, less than 20 minutes — outside downtown Portland.
Until now, Portland’s nearest In-N-Out was its recently opened Vancouver joint — but the Hillsboro restaurant will be the first Portland-area location actually in Oregon.
The restaurant broke ground at Tanasbourne Town Center last fall, clearing out what was once the parking lot of a Barnes & Noble bookstore. In-N-Out will share the plaza with a newly opened New Seasons grocery store.
In-N-Out’s Hillsboro restaurant will include indoor seating for 84 guests and outdoor patio seating for 62 guests, according to a Wednesday news release — plus a drive-thru.
That drive-thru has been a particular point of concern with the restaurant, given its location on a busy stretch of Tanasbourne Town Center, which already is home to traffic-generating businesses like Target, Best Buy and Chick-fil-A.
Hillsboro officials previously approved a traffic management plan that addresses “safety, access, and flow and minimizes impacts to other businesses and travelers.” When the Vancouver restaurant opened in April, customers reported a largely hassle-free experience.
In-N-Out’s Hillsboro location will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. and until 1:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday, according to the release.
