In loving memory of Douglas Snellgrove: 1939-2023

Douglas "Snelly" Ray Snellgrove, 84, passed away on Oct. 9, 2023. 

Doug was born in Shepard, Texas, on July 11, 1939, to Roy and Jessie Snellgrove. In 1952, his family relocated to Chehalis, Washington. He attended W.F. West High School, where he excelled in three sports: football, basketball and baseball, earning letters in each. Doug graduated from high school in 1957. 

On July 9, 1960, he married Judith Smarz at St. Joseph Church in Pe Ell, Washington. Their enduring marriage spanned 63 years. 

Throughout his life, Doug served in the U.S. Navy for four years and held positions at Yard Birds and Imperial Fabricating. He had a passion for gardening, sports, umpiring and coaching, and he was known as the "ultimate" fan of the W.F. West Bearcats, faithfully attending all home sporting events. 

Doug was predeceased by his siblings, Robert, Eldon and his twin sister Dorothy. 

He is survived by his wife, Judy; his children, Diana (Scott) Plattner, Debbie (Ryan) Moody, Donna, Denise (Jimmy) Milstead and David; his grandchildren, Tyleen (John), Wyatt, Tabitha (Nathan), Alyssa, Lauren and Ruby; his great-grandchildren, Ezekial and Noemi; and his brother, Ed (Donna). 

Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 26, 2023, at Sticklin Funeral Chapel, located at 1437 S Gold St., Centralia, Washington. A reception following the graveside service will be held at the Virgil R. Lee Community Building at Recreation Park, situated at 221 SW 13th St., Chehalis, Washington. 

The family would like to extend their special thanks to the nurses and doctors at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia for their exceptional care, as well as W.F. West High School for their recognition and tribute to Doug.
