Warren was born in Madison, Nebraska. His family moved to Washington when he was 10 years old, settling at a dairy farm on Fir Island in Skagit County, near Mount Vernon. He was a graduate of Mount Vernon High School and Skagit Valley Community College. He earned a bachelor of divinity from Multnomah School of the Bible, attended two years of Western Conservatory Seminary and later earned a master of business from City University. Warren served two years in the Army. He was a pastor at a small church in Astoria, Oregon. Warren returned to farming and had increasingly sized dairies in Mount Vernon and Chehalis, Washington. After farming, he held various jobs and lived in Tumwater, Washington. Throughout his life he was a dedicated Christian and avid athlete: baseball, basketball, boxing and running. He was a tireless worker and very tough competitor. Warren was married to Florence Jean Lambert for 36 years and Mary Jane Sheaffer for 24 years.

Survivors include children Jeff (Kristie) Frey and Jennifer (John Rodsett) Frey and their mother, Jean Frey, and Carolyn (George) Wells, Rick (Annalise) Nye and Scott (Laura) Nye; grandchildren Melanie (Griffin) Plenert and Rhyse (Hayley) Frey; sister Jane Fleshman; and sister-in-law Kay Frey. Warren’s family would like to thank the staff at the Washington Soldiers Home in Orting, Washington, for the compassionate care they gave Warren in the last six years and suggest any commemorative donations should go to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research.
