Steve Floyd, known by his friends as “Reno,” was born May 24, 1939, to Al and Opal Floyd, of Pe Ell, Washington. On March 6, 2025, Steve passed away peacefully with his wife by his side.
Steve was the youngest of three kids. While in high school, Steve lettered in all four sports. After graduating from Pe Ell, Steve joined the Marine Corps until his honorable discharge in 1959. While serving his country, Steve continued his love for sports and played on the Marine Corps basketball team. After the Marine Corps, Steve came home and married his first wife and settled in Adna. He and his wife had three beautiful children but later divorced. In 1985, he married the love of his life, Pat, and together they built a wonderful life with many special memories. They were married for 41 years.
Steve was an avid fisherman. He and Pat were regulars at the lakes and the Columbia River. In early retirement, he and Pat traveled to Alaska, Mexico and Hawaii; eventually spending their winters in Arizona. They also spent time with friends at the beach clam digging, sitting by the fire, golfing and telling stories. Steve owned Northwest Heating & Cooling until his retirement, when he sold the business to his son, Wes.
Steve’s best friends nicknamed him Steve-o-Reno, which became “Reno.” Because of his love for sports, Steve coached his kids and grandkids in basketball and baseball. He also coached the girls Fullers 16U select team. Steve had a love of sports as an adult so he continued playing basketball and baseball for as long as he could. He was also a true Huskies fan, always wearing purple, and all that knew him will remember his worn out huskie hat.
Steve is survived by his wife, Pat; and six children, Wes (Cindee), Ken (Max), Julie, Chip, Becky (Ron), and Jerry (deceased). He had 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Steve is preceded in his death by his grandson, Justin Ratkie.
We would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the caring staff at Garden Court, Lacey, and to Puget Sound Hospice.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. April 26 at the Adna Grange. A potluck will be held. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Adna Booster Club in memory of Steve Floyd.
