In loving memory of Sarah Kmon: 1982-2025

Posted

Sarah Victoria Kmon, of Pe Ell, Washington, died at home on July 7, 2025, after 4.5 years of living with colon cancer. Sarah was born June 17, 1982, in Harold Wood, Essex, England.

Sarah moved to America at 19 years old and was drawn to wild, rural spaces in the West. She worked as a horse wrangler, horse packer, veterinary tech, cattle rancher, and parenting coach. But most meaningful to her was time spent with her husband, children and dog.

Sarah grew a productive no-dig garden, had a musical laugh, wrote two beloved Substack blogs (GrowingHearths and Come On Kmon!), and impacted many people’s lives with her loving, loyal friendship and her insight, determination, humor and wisdom.

She is survived by her husband, Matthew Kmon; children, Joseph (11) and Aubrey (9) Kmon; parents, Jonathan and Anna Meadmore; sisters, Lucy and Helen Meadmore; mother-in-law, Judy Kmon; beloved Malinois, Zephyr; and many extended family members.

A magnolia tree planting ceremony will be held in Sarah’s memory in autumn. Donations in Sarah’s name can be made to The Woof Project Malinois Rescue or to colorectal cancer research at https://secure.fredhutch.org/goto/sarahkmon.
