Sally H. Cooper, age 95, passed away on March 19, 2025, at Sharon Care Center in Centralia, Washington, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 12, 1930, in Auburn, Washington, Sally lived a life devoted to education, community service and family.
While attending summer school at College of Puget Sound, now known as University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, Sally met Clyde Cooper. They married in Seattle on January 29, 1955. Their early years were spent in Seattle, then in Morton, Washington, for the rest of their 61 years together. Clyde passed away in 2015.
Sally is survived by her four daughters: Elizabeth Cooper of San Diego, California; Cathy (Pete) Murphy of Onalaska, Washington; Karen (Chris) Towey of Snohomish, Washington; and Mary (Gerhard) Widtmann of Vienna, Austria. She was the proud grandmother to Ricky and Tiffany Cooper, Justin and Joanna Murphy, Joe Towey and Christine Brenner, and Taiki Sakai. She also had two great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.
An avid reader, Sally was never without a book next to her, with a pile of books waiting to be read. She found her greatest joy at Rocky Bay, where she spent countless summers surrounded by lifelong friends and family.
Sally dedicated much of her life to teaching, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students at Morton Elementary School in Morton, Washington. Her passion for education extended beyond the classroom—she was a Girl Scout leader, a book club leader and a founding member of Delta Kappa Gamma. A deeply engaged member of the Morton United Methodist Church, she played a key role in organizing various community and charity initiatives.
Her legacy of kindness, service and love for learning will continue to inspire all who knew her. There is no service planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Morton United Methodist Church.
