In loving memory of Rebekah Powell: 1952-2026

Posted

As the sun set on Aug. 10, 2026, Rebekah Darlene Powell, surrounded by loved ones, departed our embrace.

Rebekah was born in Brazoria, Texas, on May 17, 1952. She was a natural creative with a keen eye for interior design and decoration. Rebekah loved to read and was an expressive storyteller herself. She also enjoyed learning new languages and teaching them to her loved ones. She attended the University of Columbia in South Carolina and earned a Juris Doctor degree in law. Those fortunate enough to be within her orbit had the privilege of calling her “Mom” or “Mimi.”

A woman like Rebekah is unable to be defined in just a few words. She loved to sing, dance, travel, learn new things, watch all genres of films and television, admire the hummingbirds visiting her window and tend to her flowers. She believed in faeries, sent angels to those in need and loved so many more things. Above all, she loved and cherished her family.

Rebekah leaves behind two beautiful children, Daisy DeSimone and Daniel Shults; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, with another on the way.

Rebekah was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mary and Kenneth Powell.

The Powell family appreciates all of the love, support and condolences as they navigate Rebekah earning her wings and becoming one of the angels who watched over us all.

“There’s a Rainbow in the Cloud”

As I journey here mid the toils and tears, there’s a rainbow in the cloud; he will safely lead, I must have no fear, there’s a rainbow in the cloud.

There’s a rainbow that is shining, there’s a rainbow in the cloud; when life’s race is run and the victory’s won, there’s a rainbow in the clouds.

After storm and rain, fields of golden grain, there’s a rainbow in the cloud; winter’s cold and pain, summer’s harvest grain, there’s a rainbow in the cloud.

There’s a rainbow that is shining, there’s a rainbow in the cloud; when life’s race is run and the victory’s won, there’s a rainbow in the clouds.

When the storms all pass comes a brighter day; there’s a rainbow in the cloud; in that city fair, there’s a crown to wear; there’s a rainbow in the cloud.

There’s a rainbow that is shining, there’s a rainbow in the cloud; when life’s race is run and the victory’s won, there’s a rainbow in the clouds.
