In loving memory of Mary Nowlen: 1935-2024

Posted

Mary J. Nowlen went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 14, 2024. She was born on March 31, 1935 to Alex and Martha Richardson in Centralia Washington. She attended Centralia Schools and met and married Fred Nowlen of Adna in 1954. They soon bought a farm in the rural Toledo area and proceeded to raise three children: Steve, Ron (Teri) and Sheri Hill (Steve).

Mary was a loving mother who adored her grandchildren Sheldon, Tyler and Zackery. She spent countless hours on nature walks with the grandkids in the forest above her house. She also bonded with her great grandchildren Hunter and Mabel.

Mary also had a green thumb and could grow anything from amaryllis to zinnias! Her house was surrounded by lush flora and she could often be seen weeding flower beds and tending to her plants.

Mary was also a diehard Mariner fan and loved listening to KIRO broadcasts of the game. Even if the game was televised she would turn the volume down and listen to the radio play by play. It didn't seem to matter if the team was contending or not, she just loved the game. She also loved the Seahawks and especially enjoyed watching Beast Mode bowl over opposing players.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, but continued taking care of the farm on her own. She was often seen on her John Deere mowing her big front yard well into her eighties.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Alec Richardson.

At her request there will be no service and any contributions can be made to local charities.
