Lois Anne Hopkins, of Tumwater, Washington, passed away peacefully at her home on Oct. 23, 2023. She was 94 years old.
She was born on Oct. 29, 1928, in Sutton, North Dakota, to Ernest and Verna Mae Cooper and was the youngest of nine children. The Cooper family moved to Western Washington when Lois was 9 years old and settled in Lake Stevens. She graduated from Lake Stevens High School in 1947. Upon graduation, she attended Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland, Oregon, graduating in 1950.
Lois achieved her dream of becoming a pastor’s wife on Feb. 9, 1951 when she married William Wayne Hopkins, also a Multnomah graduate. Bill and Lois served together for 12 years pastoring churches in Cascade, Idaho, Lower Nachese, Washington, Colville, Washington, and Lewiston, Idaho. They divorced in 1963. Lois then enrolled at Lewis-Clark Normal School in Lewiston, Idaho, and earned a teaching degree. She taught second grade at Mountain View Elementary School in Quincy, Washington, for 22 years. She was a wonderful teacher and well loved by all her students. Upon retiring, she moved to Tumwater, Washington.
Lois was a kind, generous person who gave of herself, her time and her resources to anyone in need. She was a talented craftsperson, and her hobbies included knitting, sewing, floral arrangements and gardening. Lois is survived by her daughter, Janet Dixon; three granddaughters, Teresa Asbury, Tami Dixon and Tiffany Dixon; five great-grandchildren, Evie, Ben, Jude and Luke Asbury, and Axle Dixon; and one great-great-granddaughter, Violet Blair. She is also survived by a son and grandchildren in the Olympia, Washington, area.
Lois was laid to rest at the Evergreen Cemetery in Everett, Washington, with her parents, Ernest and Verna Mae.
