In loving memory of Lewis Rohrig: 1942-2025

Posted

It is with heavy hearts we announce that Lewis Frank Rohrig passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, at St. John’s Hospital in Longview, Washington, with family and friends by his side.
Lewis was born Dec. 20, 1942, and was adopted by the late Ruth and George Rohrig. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice D. (Packer) Rohrig, of 56 years, who passed away March 26, 2025; Ruth and George Rohrig; and Goldie and Gene Packer.

Lewis grew up in Toledo and graduated in Onalaska. He moved to Erie, Pennsylvania, for two years and worked as a paramedic, then moved back to Toledo. He met Jan on a blind date in Seattle and married a couple of years later. He worked at Weyerhaeuser in Longview, Washington, as a head foreman of the railroad for many years until he retired.

He was very active in the community. He was a Scout leader for the Boy Scouts, master of Cowlitz Prairie Grange and Pomona Grange, and very active in the annual Threshing Bee at the Herron Farm with the John Deere Tractor Club. He and Jan were also the Big Cheeses for Cheese Day in Toledo.

He loved to go to the Senior Citizen Center and do what he loved best — carving and talking about the old times. Lewis was a great father, friend and neighbor, always there to help when needed.

He is survived by his two children, Michelle (Dennis) Edge and Jamie Rohrig; Shauna and Rob Holt; his very special grandchildren, Shelby and Gracie Holt; sister-in-law Debbie (Monte) Brontov and brother-in-law Eddie (Kris) Packer. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life for Lewis and Janice will be held at the Cowlitz Prairie Grange on Sept. 13, 2025, at 1 p.m. There will be a potluck provided by the ladies at the Grange.
