In loving memory of Lawrence Dean Hackney

Posted

Chief Petty Officer Lawrence Dean Hackney, a dedicated and esteemed veteran who served his country with honor during the Vietnam War, passed away peacefully on Feb. 15, 2024. He was 71.

Larry enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, where he demonstrated unwavering courage, commitment and patriotism throughout his service. He rose through the ranks, eventually attaining the esteemed position of chief petty officer. His dedication to duty and exemplary leadership qualities earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and superiors alike.

After proudly serving his country for 23 years, Larry retired from the Navy, but his spirit of hard work and dedication remained undiminished. He embarked on a second career at Fred Meyer, where he spent the next two decades contributing his talents and expertise to the community he loved.

Larry was not only a devoted serviceman and employee but also a loving husband, married for 53 years to his beloved, Janis Hackney (St. Ours). Together, they shared a lifetime of cherished memories, weathering the challenges and celebrating the joys that life bestowed upon them.

He was a devoted father to his son, Jeff, and a cherished father-in-law to Daniele. His greatest joy came from being a grandfather to his two beloved grandchildren, Samantha and Ethan. He cherished every moment spent with his family.

Though he may no longer walk among us, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Larry is now walking among the angels.

May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his duty is done, his sacrifices remembered, and his legacy everlasting. No service will be held, at Larry’s request.
