In Loving Memory of Joanne Evans: 1939-2023

Joanne Rose (Balsley) Evans passed away Jan. 4, 2023, in Tenino, Washington, her home for the last six years. She was born May 4, 1939, to Gerald Otto Balsley and Leona Emma (Rahm) Balsley in Devils Lake, North Dakota. She lived most of her life in Centralia, Washington, but also resided in Adna and Seattle, Washington, and California. 

Joanne graduated from Adna High School in 1957 and attended some college. She married Robert Timothy Evans on March 18, 1961, in Centralia. He passed away Sept. 20, 2006. Professionally, Joanne was a state auditor. 

Joanne was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She gave of herself unconditionally by not only raising her own children, but foster children, grandchildren, and her children’s friends who needed a helping hand. She loved family get-togethers, lunch with friends, arts and crafts, crocheting, bingo and gambling. 

Joanne is survived by her sons, J. Gunnar (Sandie) Evans and E. Matt (Audra) Evans; daughters, Jeanine L. Evans and Timi Jo Evans; six grandchildren; brother Gary (Alene) Balsey; and sisters, Karen Mohoric and Jill (Denny) Greene. 

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, foster daughter Anne Morrison, brother-in-law Gary Mohoric, father-in-law Clinton Evans and mother-in-law Evelyn Evans. 

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2023, at the American Legion, 111 W. Main St., Centralia, Washington, 98531. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s, Heart, Kidney, or Cancer Foundations.
