In loving memory of Joanne Dettmering: 1939-2023

Posted

Joanne Dettmering, of Centralia, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, at the age of 84. Joanne was born on July 2, 1939, to Ed and Anna Limbacher in Brooklyn, New York. She grew up in South Ozone Park, Queens, New York and graduated from John Adams High School in 1956.

On January 26, 1963, she married Rudy Dettmering and became a mother to his young son, Billy. Joanne, who was a secretary by trade, became a homemaker. Susan, Lisa-Ann, Alison and Karen joined the family in the years to follow.

The family had a farm in upstate New York, and in 1979, they moved to Centralia. Throughout the years, Joanne worked as a secretary for Territorial Supplies, had her own typing business, was secretary for the Centralia First United Methodist Church and later retired from Lewis County Sheriff's Office in 1995.

Joanne and Rudy loved to travel. They spent the next 20+ years traveling around the United States and all over the world. Family was so important to Joanne, and becoming a grandma was such a joy to her. They loved traveling all over the world to visit them.

Joanne loved to garden, sew and do crossword puzzles. She loved, more than anything, family time, and attended as many of her grandkids’ events as she could. Spoiling her very loved dog, Sabrina, was also a favorite pastime. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandma, aunt and friend. She will be missed more than words can express.

Joanne is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Rudy, her daughters Susan (Aaron) Olson, Lisa- Ann (John) DelFavero, Alison (Kirk) Lupkes, Karen (Mike) Hirte, and Beth (Bob) Meckel, as well as her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Doris (Peter) Holmstedt, and nephew and niece.

Joanne is preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Anna Limbacher, and her son, Billy.
