On May 31, 2025, Jeanette (Bogert) Mitzel passed from this life to her eternal life. She was born on a cold winter day in 1930 to Herbert and Woutera Bogert, who had settled in the Yakima Valley. She attended school in the Sunnyside School District, elementary through high school. After graduation, Jeanette worked for the Old National Bank as a bookkeeper. During this time, she lived with her sister, Wilma, and husband, Ed, helping with their growing family. This is where she met her future husband, Alfred (Ed’s brother), who had recently been discharged from the Navy. Jeanette and Alfred were married in 1955.
Jeanette and Alfred had three boys: Robert (Bob), William (Bill) and David. Once the boys were all in school, Jeanette began her new career as a bus driver for the Sunnyside School District that lasted for 25 years.
After her and Alfred’s retirement from the Postal Service, they moved to the west side of the state, living in Chehalis, Glenoma and then Randle, where they raised Angus cattle on their small family farm. In 2015, Al and Jeanette sold the farm and moved to Yakima. Three short years later, they moved back to the west side of the state to be near their children, making their home in Eatonville and then Yelm.
Jeanette is survived by her husband, Alfred; sister, Marie Duim of Sunnyside; sons, Bob (Debbie), Bill (Kim) and David (Andrea); grandchildren, including Justin (Holly), Tyler (Tiffani), Emily, Collin, Tianna and Brandon; great-grandchildren, Robbie and Maddie; in addition to many nieces and nephews. Jeanette is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Woutera Bogert; brothers, Pete Bogert, Morris Bogert, Henry Bogert and Walter Bogert; her sister, Wilma Mitzel; and grandson, Jeffrey Mitzel.
A private graveside service will be held at Claquato Cemetery in Chehalis, Washington. Arrangements are by Cattermole Funeral Home of Winlock, Washington.
