In loving memory of James Johnson: 1941-2024

James Oran Johnson died on Jan. 2, 2024, at the age of 82, in Lacey, Washington, following a sudden decline in health. 

Jim was a devoted husband to his wife, Nancy, and a loving father to his sons, Fr. James Jr., Dave (Christy) and Mike (Jennifer). He adored his grandchildren, Jared, Bryce, Luke, Cole and Lila. 

Born in Seattle in 1941, he was the son of Isabelle and Louis B. (Johnny) Johnson. He grew up in Napavine, Washington, and graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in business administration. In 1970, Jim took a position as a founding staff member at the Evergreen State College, eventually becoming director of computer services, retiring in 1997. 

Jim will be remembered for his big heart, bright smile, gregarious laugh and the way he cared for others. He will be sorely missed. 

A funeral mass will be held for Jim at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Sacred Heart Parish in Lacey, Washington. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
