In Loving Memory of Gary Hitch Sr.: 1947-2022


Gary Allen Hitch Sr., 75, of Onalaska, Washington, passed away on Nov. 5, 2022, at Prestige Acute Rehabilitation Center in Centralia after a long-term battle with cancer. Born on Oct. 26, 1947, in Chehalis, Washington, Gary Hitch Sr. graduated from Napavine High School in 1965. 

He joined the military and was deployed to Vietnam from October 1968 to September 1969 as a Specialist Five Heavy Vehicle Driver for the 379th Transportation Company. After the military, Gary became a carpenter for 40 years. 

In his free time he played in the woods and built demolition derby cars. He was married, had two sons, and was later divorced. Gary’s hobbies included gardening, splitting wood, building, reading and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Gary was preceded in death by his parents Harry Hitch and Dorothy (Maxwell) Hitch. Survivors include his sister Sharon (Hitch) Lehew, his two sons Gary Hitch Jr. and Richard Hitch, nieces and nephews, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly.  A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 22, 2022, at New Beginnings Church in Chehalis, Washington.
