Edith Reese Gibson passed away on Jan. 7, 2024, in Chehalis at the age of 89. She was born in Concordia, Missouri, to the Reverend Albert William Reese and Emily Lena Schloh Reese.

The youngest of four girls, Edith moved with her family around the country. She lived in Concordia, Missouri; Mexico City, Mexico; Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Chehalis, Washington. After graduating from high school, Edith moved to Seattle, Washington, and worked for Northwest Airlines. While attending a dance with some of her friends, she met her future husband, John Gibson. They were married for 69 years and raised two sons, David and Paul.

After the boys were in school, Edith went to work for Sea First Bank, where she became a branch manager. She and John also opened the Midway Mail Center in Des Moines. Upon retirement, they moved to Chehalis where they built a beautiful home overlooking the Newaukum golf course.

Edith enjoyed golf, gardening and reading. She was a member of the ladies golf league at Newaukum. She also worked at a nursery on Jackson Highway and was a volunteer at the Chehalis library. An accomplished seamstress, Edith attended the weekly get together of her quilting friends. Edith loved her Lord and was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Chehalis.

Thank you to the staff at Chehalis West, who took such loving and wonderful care of Edith.

Edith is survived by her sons, David (Carol) Gibson, of Alaska, and Paul (Kathy) Gibson, of Olympia; and her grandsons, Alex (Sarah) Gibson and Henry (Rachel) Gibson.

A memorial service will be held on Feb. 3, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Chehalis.
