In loving memory of David McKinley: 1954-2026

David Leroy McKinley, 71, of Centralia, Washington, passed away at home on June 2, 2026. He was born June 26, 1954, in Atlanta, Georgia. His parents were Edward Jackson and Dolly McKinley of Mossyrock, Washington.

Dave’s first love was trucks. His passion for trucks started in his youth with his first job working for Weyerhaeuser as a logger and then a driver, until Mount St. Helens erupted in 1980. Many people knew him as “Dirtclod,” a nickname he lovingly acquired after falling into a creek and coming up muddy.

He went on to drive for many trucking companies over the years. He later started his own business, hauling hot-shot loads under the name Poor Boy Hauling LLC. He began taking welding classes at Centralia College and later became the college’s CDL instructor.

His latest truck project had been restoring a 1966 Mack truck. He spent years collecting out-of-date parts and rebuilding it, but unfortunately never got the chance to finish it. He had dreamed of taking his bright blue antique ride to truck shows.

David married Georgia Mauel in June 1989. They made their home in Centralia and enjoyed family and friends. Dave was the kind of guy who could talk to anyone and make friends, most often in coffee shops sitting around telling stories.

For his 70th birthday, he was gifted a trip to Elfin Cove, Alaska, where he spent a week fishing at his former boss’s fishing lodge. His and Georgia’s latest adventures in 2025 included a cruise to Alaska and a trip to Nashville, Tennessee.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia McKinley; son John Edward Stanley from a previous marriage; and numerous nieces and nephews.
