Carolyn Jean Thunberg passed away in the presence of family at her home in Rochester, Washington on Nov. 15, 2023. She was born in Plymouth, Michigan to Leonard L. Russell and Leonora M. Smith and was raised in Michigan and in Washington state. She was the second of five children.
She married Mats O. Thunberg in Bremerton, Washington in 1958; he passed away in 2002. They reared four children, two boys and two girls.
She had various jobs throughout the years in various places including Alaska, Hawaii, California, and Washington.
She loved walking, exercising, crocheting doilies, and spent most of her time in her backyard in her flowerbeds. She loved her family. Just like her mother, she worked hard and did her best at whatever she did.
She is survived by siblings Marlene, Marcia, JoAnne and John, and numerous aunts and uncles. Also surviving are her children Mike, LeaAnna, and Kim; grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were all very special to her. She is preceded in death by her son John who passed in September 2021.
A private memorial will be held at Grand Mound Cemetery May 18, 2024 at 11 a.m. and a celebration of life will be held at the V.R. Lee building in Chehalis immediately following.
