Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sibling, auntie, cousin, in-law, and dear friend Carol Lynne Breitenstein Loop passed away on March 2, 2025, in Olympia, Washington.
Carol was born on Dec. 18, 1941, to Mary Francis Breitenstein in Seattle, Washington. She moved to Centralia, Washington, in 1955, where she resided for 70 years.
Carol attended various public and private schools in Seattle before moving to Centralia, where she lived with her aunt and uncle, Betty and Lloyd “Shorty” Shelton, until graduating from Centralia High School in 1959. She met the love of her life, Bill Loop. They were married Aug. 20, 1960.
She kept in contact with high school classmates, many of whom became lifelong friends. She was a CHS cheerleader and worked at her aunt and uncle’s café, where Bill Loop frequently met her and walked her home from work, and so the story goes.
Carol loved family! She had three daughters: Tamara, Cynthia, and Trese. She was also the oldest of four children and had close relationships with siblings, in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Carol was a proud homemaker and raised her children, enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, sewing, crafting, golfing, knitting, was an avid reader and loved attending live theatre. Many of us treasure the memory of her spaghetti dinners and her annual handmade Christmas tree ornaments. She attended classes at Centralia College, worked for the Lewis County Canvassing Board, as a surgical pathology assistant at Centralia Providence Hospital, and for a local accountant during tax seasons.
Carol enjoyed retirement years with her husband Bill, spending winters in Yuma, traveling to England, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Spain, and various other trips with family and friends.
Carol is survived by her daughters Cynthia Waterhouse and Trese Sorenson; her sons-in-law Don Waterhouse and Craig Sorenson; grandchildren Kelcie Westley (Joshua), Mackenzie Seeley (Shawn), Zachary Fisher (Kayla), Allie Rounds (Matt), and Carlei Moore (Justin); great-grandchildren Addyson Arthurs, Brently Arthurs, Kaleo Haili, Ryan Seeley, Luca Fisher, Beau Seeley, Blake Seeley, Ezra Fisher, Avery Rounds, Noah Westley, and Savannah Rounds; siblings Joan Edwards (Danny), Roseanne Homer (Freeman); in-laws Pete Loop (Eileen), Susan Breitenstein.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Rogers Loop, in 2021; her daughter, Tamara Marie Loop, in 1962; her mother, Mary Frances Breitenstein, in 1999; and her brother, Bill Douglas Breitenstein, in 2015.
The family plans for a private memorial service.
