In loving memory of Bonnie Newboles: 1932-2026

Posted

Bonnie Lou (Hayton) Newboles was born in Centralia, WA to Vernon Hayton and Helen (Paulsen) Hayton on April 26,1932. She passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones May 20, 2026 at Lander House in Centralia after a brief illness. She was 94 years old.

She moved frequently as a child between her parents’ households. She lived with her beloved Grandma Noni for several years with joy and appreciation and grew up attending Chehalis schools. She married Shirley “Ray” Newboles in Yuma, AZ on September 28,1952. Bonnie became a new bride and a proud Marine Corp wife for the next 16 years. Once again moving frequently until Ray’s retirement in 1968.

Bonnie held many different jobs while raising three children and then after they left home. She worked at the PX on base, as a bank teller, in the WF West HS library (while Julie and Frank were attending), at a local craft store and as a receptionist at a medical clinic. One of her memorable places of employment in the 60’s was Lawrence Welk’s resort restaurant where she learned the finer points of pie making and met Mr Welk himself.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Dwight) Tupper; her son, Frank (Katie) Newboles and brother, Les Huebner, all of Chehalis. Also her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Annie (Paul) Robinson, Elias and Myles, Homer, AK; Kyle (Anna) Tupper, Wesley and Landen, Chehalis; Daniel (Amy) Tupper, Evan, Logan and Juniper, Chehalis; Sara (Sean Vidanage) Newboles, Tyler, Olympia; Kurt (Gabby Hilgart) Newboles, Bennett and Sadie, Portland, OR. Also surviving are cousins: Pat, Sherry, Mary Beth and Bob; a number of nieces and nephews as well as their children and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Vernon Hayton and Helen Stam, brothers Richard Hayton and Ronald Huebner, her son Dean Newboles and her husband of 66 years, Ray, the love of her life.

Bonnie was a devoted Christian, attending church wherever she lived. While she was a proud Baptist, she enjoyed services in other denominations, as well as the radio and TV ministries... anywhere she could worship. She attended assorted Bible studies where she had many friends. She was a member of the Tulip Garden Club and Cougar Square Dance Club.

She loved time with Ray and family. After his retirement they remodeled and built several homes, living in their RV while completing their last home. Packing up the RV and heading to Riffe and Mayfield Lakes with grandkids and friends delighted Bonnie. They spent time traveling the country to visit family and winters in Arizona. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending their programs and events and loving them!

She was very interested in genealogy, refinishing furniture, garage sale treasures, various crafts, sewing (including her square dance skirts), gardening, landscaping and feeding and watching birds. Bonnie was an excellent cook. Making applesauce, canning peaches and lasagna were just some of her specialties. Taking a painting class inspired her to create pictures we all enjoy. She was still taking classes at Woodland Estates with her dear friend Marilyn just a few years ago. She was an avid reader always including her Bible.

Bonnie liked a good laugh and was known to enjoy visitors, gatherings and having fun. She was prayerful every day. She loved listening to music, most especially gospel, and would happily tap her toes and clap along. She was organized, thrifty and always had a clean house with a lovely yard. She looked forward to building burn piles and having hotdog roasts. Having pumpkin pie and cocoa ready for trick or treaters was a tradition for her.

Bonnie’s family is most grateful to Assured Home Health and Hospice for the excellent care, compassion and support she received and how Lander House AFH lovingly surrounded her with kindness, friendship and made her a home. Our hearts are filled with thanks and you are each a blessing! We will always have “Precious Memories” (a favorite hymn of Bonnie’s) of all of you!
