Winlock Miller Elementary School held its first color run on June 17, and organizers report that it was a huge success.
The City of Winlock provided organizers with permission to close off the loop directly in front of the elementary school for about an hour for the event.
“Our wonderful staff kicked it off doing the first lap wearing inflatable costumes for our students' entertainment,” Winlock Student Community Advocates (WSCA) stated in an email to The Chronicle. “We had about 370 students complete over 2,500 laps (of a .3 mile loop), which amounted to about 750 miles! Every lap completed gave students the opportunity to run through bursts of color to reflect their hard work.”
The event was made possible through the work of the physical education department and and the WSCA. It raised about $3,000. The money will provide students with PE equipment and activities during field day.
“A huge thank you to the WSCA team, all the volunteers, community and the staff for being so supportive and amazing,” WSCA stated in the email.
