In focus: July’s full moon shines over South Lewis County

Posted

Although overcast skies dominated the forecast for most of the week, the clouds cleared up just in time for the full moon late in the evening on Thursday, July 10.

According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, July’s full moon is called the buck moon as bucks typically are growing their antlers around this time of year.

Other names for it include the feather moulting moon, a Cree Nation name, or the salmon moon, a Tlingit name indicating when the fish had returned and were making their runs throughout the rivers of the Pacific Northwest.

The next full moon, also known as the sturgeon moon, is set to rise in the sky early in the morning on Saturday, Aug. 9.
