New Centralia District 1 City Councilor Jan Nontell was sworn into office to start the Centralia City Council meeting on Tuesday evening in the council chambers.
Nontell was selected as the next occupant of the District 1 seat during the previous Centralia City Council meeting when the council voted 4-0 to select Nontell, with one member abstaining and another absent from the meeting.
Nontell is a longtime Centralia business owner and currently operates the Rectangle Gallery and Creative Space in Downtown Centralia.
Nontell has also long been involved in the Centralia Historic Preservation Committee and was serving a second term on the committee when she was appointed to the council. Her seat on the committee is now vacant after her appointment. The seat was formerly held by Norm Chapman, who resigned earlier this year.
