In Focus: Centralia planting new trees in downtown area this week

Posted

The City of Centralia began planting new trees in the downtown area on Tuesday.

"Phase 1 of the downtown tree replacement project is officially underway," the Centralia Downtown Association wrote on Wednesday.  "This first phase focuses on planting trees in areas that were previously asphalted over where trees once stood. We are reclaiming those spaces and restoring greenery back into our streetscape with intention and care. What makes this week especially meaningful is that the city crew is working alongside partnered arborists, learning best practices for proper planting techniques to ensure these trees have the strongest possible start. This hands-on collaboration helps set these trees up for long term survival, healthy growth, and flourishing in our downtown environment. This is more than a beautification effort. It is a long term investment in shade, safety, walkability and resilience for our downtown core. We are proud to be Rooted in Centralia."

The City of Centralia is planting eight new trees in the downtown area,  according to a previous news release from the Centralia Downtown Association. The trees will be planted through Friday.

Residents might notice temporary sidewalk or parking impacts near planting locations as crews work, the release stated.

Access to businesses will remain open, and any disruptions will be short.
