A 25-year-old man hiking in Cape Kiwanda slipped and fell down a rocky bluff to the ocean’s edge and was swept out to sea Saturday.

Rescue teams recovered the body of California resident Henry Minh Hoang on Sunday afternoon, Oregon State Police said Monday.

Hoang was hiking beyond a safety fence in an area some locals call “the punch bowl,” which is not the Devil’s Punchbowl State Park about 40 miles south of the location, police said.

He slipped and fell about 20 feet and was knocked unconscious around 5 p.m. Saturday. Hoang was swept into the ocean by the waves, and witnesses lost sight of him, police said.

Rescuers recovered his body on the shoreline at the bottom of a nearby cliff around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
