A herd of bison briefly blocked both directions of U.S. Highway 12 in Elma in Grays Harbor County on Tuesday morning.

“This isn’t Yellowstone,” Washington State Department of Transportation wrote on X at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Photos from Washington State Patrol Trooper Katherine Weatherwax’s X account show about a dozen bison on the roadway on eastbound Highway 12 near the intersection with Highway 8.

The animals had escaped their ranch, Weatherwax said on X. They were safely wrangled, with no animal or humans harmed.
