As usual, April showers are getting an early start in late March here in Southwest Washington, but the region could see even more rain with the possibility of severe thunderstorms hitting the area on Wednesday, March 26, according to Lewis County Emergency Management.

“Mother Nature is pulling a double feature this week. First, record-breaking warmth — mid-70s in most areas — and then … the potential for severe thunderstorms on Wednesday,” Lewis County Emergency Management stated in a social media post.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a 20% to 40% chance of severe thunderstorms on Wednesday, most likely occurring between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

On top of the heavy rainfall, pea- to quarter-sized hail may hit along with wind gusts between 40 and 60 mph, the National Weather Service stated.

There is also a potential for rare tornadic activity throughout Western Washington and Oregon, according to the National Weather Service.

With the danger of lightning along with hail and potential for high winds, residents are advised to stay indoors should severe thunderstorms develop.
