A Green Hill School inmate is facing a felony charge after staff at the Chehalis juvenile detention facility found fentanyl in a room on Jan. 13.

Staff at the facility were reportedly conducting a room search when “a blue powder was found,” according to court documents filed in Lewis County Superior Court.

The documents noted that “some powder made contact with a staff member.”

When staff asked the room’s resident what the substance was, another inmate, identified as Adrian Mendoza, 22, allegedly yelled from another room, “I just moved out of that room, it’s mine,” according to court documents.

The substance has since been confirmed as fentanyl.

Mendoza was charged Feb. 16 with one count of possession of a controlled substance while in a state correctional facility. The charge is a class C felony that carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

Mendoza had his preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court on March 1. Arraignment is scheduled for March 7.
