Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office provides update on missing kayaker

On Thursday afternoon, the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office (GHCSO) took to Facebook to provide a timeline of events and an update in the ongoing efforts to locate missing kayaker Jeffrey Damasiewicz.

“Our search for Jeffrey Damasiewicz continues, and we remain committed to following every lead and searching for any information that may help bring him home,” GHCSO said in a Facebook post.

On August 29, Damasiewicz’s blue kayak was located in Blue Slough by a good Samaritan.

On August 30, the GHCSO’s Marine Unit returned to the area where the kayak was located and conducted additional searches in hopes of locating further evidence or information that could assist us.

On September 3, additional search resources from King County assisted with ongoing efforts.

On September 14, divers from King and Thurston counties assisted with an underwater search of the area. The dive operation did not locate anything that could help us determine Jeffrey’s whereabouts.

“Our search has not stopped. We continue to look for any sign, information, or piece of evidence that could help us locate Jeffrey,” GHCSO’s post added.

The Facebook post included photographs showing some of the personal items GHCSO is still looking for. GHCSO asks that if you recognize any of these items, or if you have seen them in or around the waterways where Damasiewicz may have traveled, contact Grays Harbor 911. Do not assume someone else has already reported something — even a small piece of information could be important.

“We want to sincerely thank all of the search and rescue personnel, divers, Marine Unit personnel, good Samaritans, and our partner agencies who have assisted us throughout this search. We are grateful for every person and every resource that has contributed to the effort to locate Jeffrey,” GHCSO said. “We will continue searching. We will continue following leads. And we will continue working to bring Jeffrey home.”
