The Centralia College Foundation has received a $35,000 grant from the Ben B. Cheney Foundation to support construction of batting cages at Bob Peters Field at Centralia College.

The Centralia College Foundation applied for the grant over the summer and was notified of its award in October, according to a Centralia College news release.

“This Cheney Foundation grant has pushed this project forward significantly,” said Centralia College Foundation Executive Director Christine Fossett. “We anticipate building the batting cages over the winter so they are available to our Blazer baseball and softball teams when they start practicing in February.”

Fundraising for the field is ongoing, as additional funds are needed for the bleachers, press booth, and other amenities, according to a news release.
