In May 2025, antiquers frequenting downtown Centralia’s many vintage second-hand item stores saw a new option open up among Tower Avenue’s offerings — Good Fortune.
Located at 120A S. Tower Ave., the store is owned and operated by Centralia resident Sariah Flock, who blends vintage and antique offerings with contemporary items in an effort to allow customers to truly express themselves when it comes to choosing an outfit or a new living room decoration.
The Chronicle visited Good Fortune to explore the store and learn more about why Flock decided to open her own business.
“It’s important to create your own good fortune. You know, most of us who grew up in this community, we’ve seen what it’s like when people forget to dream or they don’t strive for more. You lose your ambition,” Flock said. “Or you get told while you’re growing up what’s good enough for you. I think that it’s really up to each individual person to determine that. So my business is supposed to be a reminder of that. I want to inspire people to express themselves through what they wear, and through their environments. I want life to be fun again, and a little bit less Ikea.”
Having been open for over half a year, Flock stated she’s developed a good rapport with the neighboring antique store owners, and frequents their stores too.
Good Fortune is slightly different, as she not only sells items, but experiments with decorative designs. An artist herself, Good Fortune also serves as a creative space for Flock.
“This is trying to show people a little bit more out-of-the-box ways to use things that already exist,” Flock added.
Some of her own art currently on display inside the store includes a display of items for sale arranged in a small, old rowboat.
“I had been inspired to do a Captain Hook window (display) for Halloween, so that’s where the boat came from. I just went out of town and drug a boat, put it in the back of my truck, and now I’m trying to figure out a different display to do with the boat every month,” Flock said.
She has family nearby too, as her mother, Holly Phelps, owns and runs The Shady Lady antique and resale store just down the street from Good Fortune.
On top of being a local raised here, Flock is also involved with local nonprofits including the Centralia Downtown Festivals Association and the Twirl Foundation.
For those looking to visit Good Fortune to check out its selection, the store is closed on Monday and open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
