W.F. West was able to garner wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches but couldn’t nab any others in a 4-2 defeat to Black Hills at home on Friday in 2A Evergreen Conference play.
Singles
“The best thing in Claire’s match was that she got down 5-1 against a good player,” W.F. West coach Jack State said. “Janey had a few games where she got hot and everything was working for her, but Claire weathered the storm and came back to win it.”
State also praised Dowling, who made short work of her opponent in No. 2 singles.
“Kaylynne played very well,” State said. “She won pretty easily, but her opponent was a good player who hustled. Kaylynne did a good job of understanding who she was up against and how to beat her.”
Doubles
“I’m excited to see the future of our second doubles team,” State said. “They work hard. They’re playing varsity with only six matches under their belts.”
W.F. West falls to 3-4-1. The Bearcats’ next match is at Aberdeen on Wednesday.
Centralia got back in the win column, avenging an earlier loss to Shelton by beating the Highclimbers, 4-2, on Friday in 2A EvCo action.
Singles
“Olivia and Nora had tough singles matches, and I loved how they fought for every point,” Centralia coach Deb Keahey said. “Liza had an epic three-set battle and she fought through adversity and dominated the last two sets.
Doubles
“I loved the battle in all the girls today,” Keahey said. “Our doubles teams really showed up today. Their concentration and determination to make every point count showed in the final results as they swept doubles.”
Tenino’s No. 1 and No. 2 singles players continued their dominance but the Beavers as a whole were unable to overcome Castle Rock in a 3-2 road loss Friday.
No. 1 singles player Megan Letts and No. 2 singles player Grace Vestal each remain undefeated at 8-0 on the season with their individual victories.
