RENTON — Police arrested a suspect Sunday in connection with a shooting that killed two women and a 9-year-old girl at a Renton apartment the previous night.

Officers responded just after 7:30 p.m. Saturday to an apartment near in the 1400 block of Hillcrest Lane Northeast, close to Meadow Crest Playground.

Police described it as a domestic violence shooting. Both women, 46 and 28, died at the scene, as well as the girl. Two other witnesses were in the apartment at the time, but they were uninjured, according to a news release.

Investigators believe the suspect, 46, and the 46-year-old woman were dating. The group had been hanging out at the apartment with the would-be gunman that evening, Renton police spokesperson Meeghan Black said. The girl was the older woman's daughter.

About a dozen police cars lined the streets at a cordoned intersection Saturday night. Detectives huddled in front of brick apartment buildings, stepping over a pair of sandals that were marked as evidence.

On Sunday afternoon, police announced they had arrested the suspect around 1:30 p.m. in South Seattle. He was taken into custody without incident, police said.

The names of the three dead have not been publicly released.

A police presence continued Sunday, as officers carried potential evidence out of the apartment.

Police were still investigating what exactly led up to the shooting.
