Search and rescue teams from a dozen local and federal agencies rescued a 4-year-old girl on July Fourth after she went missing at Oregon’s Cape Lookout State Park.
The Netarts-Oceanside Fire District said in a statement on social media that they got the call that the girl was missing after she got separated from her family in the rugged natural area, which lies just south of Netarts. Fire officials didn’t publicly identify the girl or her family.
Officials didn’t share the exact time she went missing or how she got separated, but said that the call for help prompted a laundry list of agencies to join the search — including state park rangers, Netarts Oceanside firefighters, Tillamook Sheriff’s Office deputies, Tillamook County’s Search and Rescue Team, and ground crews and a helicopter from the U.S. Coast Guard’s Tillamook Bay and Astoria stations, respectively.
The rescuers eventually found the dehydrated and hypothermic child 5 miles north of where they began their search. Despite the prolonged exposure to the elements she was otherwise in good condition when first responders took her to Adventist Health Tillamook, officials said.
