A fundraiser to help a family of six displaced by a house fire near Adna on April 8 had raised $2,110 of its $25,000 goal as of Monday afternoon.

The fundraiser was created by Kayley Simper on April 11 “in response to inquiries from several kind people who know Daniel and Felicity Holmes to be the first to respond when others are in need, asking how they can help this young family of six after a devastating fire consumed their new home on Tuesday, April 8th,” the fundraiser’s description reads.

Crews with Lewis County Fire District 6 were dispatched to a report of flames and smoke showing through the back window of a residence in the 200 block of Highway 603 at approximately 12:37 p.m. on April 8, according to District 6 Chief Jerry Cole.

The fire was confined to the room of origin, but much of the home sustained significant smoke damage. The estimated damage cost is $75,000 for the contents of the home and $260,000 for the home itself, not including the land it's on, according to Cole.

Fire crews remained on the scene until about 5 p.m. on Tuesday. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The family is currently living in a camper trailer that was loaned to them by friends and community members, Felicity Holmes said in a Facebook post on April 11.

“Our needs at this time have been approached moment by moment as it is difficult to navigate. We’ve been looking for ways to entertain the kids and restoring their book collection. Gift cards have been helpful as they will need to pick things for themselves to replace what was lost,” Felicity Holmes stated.

All donations will go toward “the immediate needs of their family,” Simper stated in the fundraiser description.
