After purchasing the lone remaining location of the long-time Twin Cities’ grocery chain Fuller’s Market Place last October, new owners Harneck “Nick” Dhudwal and his wife, Ginni Dhudwal, held a grand reopening for the Centralia supermarket on Saturday, July 26.

They were joined by members of their families, employees and members of the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce along with dozens of other attendees from the community. Attendees of the ceremony enjoyed free cake and samples along with raffles to enter and sales inside the store.

“For those who don’t know, this family has been so supportive of the community, and we really appreciate it,” Chamber Executive Director Cynthia Mudge said to those in attendance.

Aside from a resealed and repainted parking lot along with a new coat of paint on the roof, the Dhudwals have been investing in multiple improvements inside Fuller’s, including new coolers, new brighter lighting, new shelving for the liquor section and rearranging the entrance to make Fuller’s easier to navigate.

The inside of Fuller’s has also undergone a deep cleaning and been repainted.

According to Ginni, the store also offers lower prices and better deals than before. When The Chronicle went in, it found Samyang Buldak spicy ramen, which normally retails around $7 for a five-pack, for $2.

“Being a part of this community, it’s a big thing. And seeing you all together, we, all together today, make history. Thank you so much. Thank you for coming in,” Ginni said.

Fuller’s Market Place is located at 505 S. Tower Ave. in Centralia.

Ginni and Nick have been living in the U.S. since immigrating to the country in 1994. They moved to Chehalis in 2001 where they have been ever since, as previously reported by The Chronicle.

Prior to purchasing Fuller’s, the Dhudwals had already been running 20 other businesses throughout the region including the Pearl Street Grocery & Deli, also in Centralia. Despite the opening of a new nearby WinCo Foods, they still decided to purchase Fuller’s.

First opened in Chehalis by Bill and Ed Fuller in 1941, the lone remaining Fuller’s Market Place was purchased from Darris McDaniel by the Dhudwals last fall.

At its peak, the family-owned supermarket chain had three locations throughout the Twin Cities area. In 2006, the company announced the closure of its flagship store in Chehalis. Its other location in Fords Prairie closed in 2004.

After turning 81 last year, McDaniel, who had purchased Fuller’s in Centralia and made it a part of his Shop’n Kart franchise, decided to sell the Centralia location as he entered retirement.
